find your passion!

I am by nature a very passionate person.  I don't know if it's my Spanish blood or a nod from my astrological sign Leo, but the passion is definitely there.  My kids would say, "That's just how God made you, Mom!"
There are many things I am passionate about.  At the core of my passion is design; it's all about expressing my creativity.  I absolutely love to create!  Whether it is redoing a single room or an entire house; designing and sewing costumes for a local performing arts group or for my own kiddos; making handcrafted jewelry (buying new beads makes me giddy); or even writing, I am passionate about the entire process as well as the finished project.  That's one of the things I love most about designing:  the ability to see a physical change for the better.

No matter your call in life, you have to have PASSION!  What are you drawn to?  What makes you feel giddy as a schoolgirl (or boy) when you do it?  Is there a certain activity or person you are drawn to?  Whatever it is, find your passion and make time to express that which you love!  It is so important!

Tips to feed your passion:
  • Decide to be passionate.
  • Make time for what you love.
  • Learn more about your specific interest; take a class.
  • Surround yourself with like-minded people.
  • Give of yourself: your time, talents and passion

Quotes to inspire you:
Above all, be true to yourself, and if you cannot put your heart in it, take yourself out of it.--Author Unknown
Chase down your passion like it's the last bus of the night.-- Glade Byron Addams

Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.-- Harold Whitman

If there is no passion in your life, then have you really lived? Find your passion, whatever it may be. Become it, and let it become you and you will find great things happen FOR you, TO you and BECAUSE of you.-- T. Alan Armstrong
Passion that is so deep within that all we need to do is release the passion inside so that we become energized with a newness that all will want to share in.-- M. Lee
I would love to hear your comments.  What are you passionate about?  Take time for your passion.  You are worth it!

  1. Lovely post. Makes me think back to my youth as well - similar stories! Okay so maybe not a converted chicken coop, but close! :)

  2. Diana,

Thank you so much for your gracious comment! Sounds like you can relate to my story minus the chicken coop! Come back and visit again!

  3. Thank you for reminding us of the importance of passion! I don't know if it's my Spanish blood (LOL) but I'm very passionate about many things. My spirituality, family, friends,my animals, food, the arts, nature, travel, my business, they all fuel me with passion.

I'm also passionate about learning and am curious about everything! There are so many things I want to learn about!

This is the first time I've visited your blog and I'll definitely be back.

    All the best,

  4. Passion is a word I use to describe myself at least three times a day lately! I so agree with you. I am not an artsy, hands-on creative person like you - I always admire people who can create - tangibles! I am more thought-creative, making a plan and putting it into action, mentoring others, etc. and as I tap into this side of me, I see great results in my businesses. Your suggestion of taking a class is the best one for me. I signed up with Ann in October and it has helped me center myself and focus on what I really am passionate about - education, special needs kids, advocating for my own daughter..... Love your post and thanks for sharing with us!

  5. Merlyn,
Yes, the Spanish blood certainly runs through my veins! It sounds like you can relate! :) I love all the things you named that "fuel your passion!" Please visit my blog anytime!

  6. Laurie,

Passion comes in a lot of different forms and education is certainly one of them! I'm glad to hear your are focusing on your passions! Isn't it invigorating?

  7. Your doll house story reminded me of a doll house my grandparents built for me when I was 8. It was already beautifully furnished and intricately detailed. I loved to make each room look like a moment frozen in time. The kitchen counter set for dinner or the living room decorated for Christmas. I don't know what that says about my passions (if any).
What I'm taking from this lovely post is that even an obvious passion such as yours takes work to develop and nurture. Thanks!

  8. Kristin,

Your doll house sounds beautiful! I love them to this day! (My girls are outgrowing them but my son uses them for his Star Wars battles! Lol! Thank you for visiting and commenting! I appreciate it so much!

  9. Carrie, I loved this. Passion is so important isn't it? I also love all the quotes you have here. All we need to do is follow our passion and that will draw other people. Surrounding ourselves with likeminded people really is key. That keeps the momentum going and lifts us all up to greater heights. Amazing. Thanks for sharing.

  10. Fiona,

I'm glad you enjoyed this post. Passion is so very important! I can tell you are very passionate also. So great connecting with you.

  11. Thank you for the inspirational post and video, Carrie! By the way, you are a natural on the video! very engaging and authentic! I am a passionate person, too (I think it has to do with my Italian, Portugese and Spanish blood!). But I have not yet been able to really live my passion or what it is that "makes my heart sing"...the realities and demands of life have pulled me in different directions, although I have been able to spend some of my time satisfying my passions for writing and for helping others, so it is not all lost! I am dreaming of a time when I will be able to totally immerse myself in what "makes my heart sing", and trust that it will happen when the time is right! I love your story and it is so uplifting to see the joy in you!

  12. I don't know if people would see me as passionate, but I feel very deeply and strongly about things that are important to me. When I am drawn to something--whether a creative experience or an interpersonal one--I get fully absorbed and become deeply engaged. To me this is a way of being passionate. Passion seems to be in the atmosphere this week! So I think we are being called to find passion in our lives. Thanks for helping me hear the call!

  13. Nice post and video...I'm definitely passionate about certain things (my daughter, my work, helping others) and totally devoid of passion for other things (laundry, bookkeeping - LOL!)...I too was a "dollhouse girl" and it was so much fun. I believe in making time for your passions - thank you for the reminder :-)

  14. I am passionate about learning unsurprisingly (Lou Loves Learning!). But I have discovered that I am also passionate about helping women like me find their voice and freedom through coaching SNCC. It gives me the greatest of pleasure to see women blossom and find their voice online and to get real in their blogs. This is my biggest passion and now that I shall be getting my own licensed SNCC site by the end of the month I can continue to grow in this role!

  15. Great story Carrie. I think a lot of us have some indication of what we are passionate about when we are kids. We get side-tracked by what we're supposed to do though and practical matters, like making money. Sometimes are passions are not marketable, but we should still pursue them in our free time.

  17. Hi Carrie,

Thanks for your fine post. Solid message, compelling video, handy tips, inspiring quotations. Everyone harbors some passion, I think, and your message is simply: Find your own passion and seize it!

For me, my passion has always been creating music to help people enjoy their lives. Took me a long time to finally embrace this. One day I thought to myself, "You only live once. Do it right the first time." And that finally did the trick — I was hooked.

  18. I'm passionate about educating and empowering people.I love when the cloud is lifted and people experience those aha moments.

  19. My husband and I were just talking about being envious of those that have found hobbies that they are passionate about. It is something that I watch for in my daughters...when they find something that excites them so much they forget discomfort or hard work. In business I think it is better to be passionate about doing the best job you can...some are lucky enough to create a living from their passion but everyone can be passionate about what they do.

  20. I love the post on passion. What is life about if not one's passion. My passion is the gay marriage movement. I have 2 adult sons, one gay, one straight. As a mother, it makes me really angry that my sons are not treated equally and don't have the same rights. That has spurred me to start a non-profit to promote awareness about gay and lesbian couples and families. I'm also passionate about photographs and what happens to them after we take them. That is my business. That's me all around. I'm filled with passion!

  21. What makes you come alive...So important to know and invest in that. Two of your tips that really help me and my clients are to 1)set aside the time 2)hang around like-minded people. Thanks Carrie.

  22. Carrie I have so enjoyed getting to know you. I like you am drawn to the passion of life. Fortunately or unfortunately I am passionate about so many things, including creating beauty in rooms, and its is so true that hanging out with like minded people just ups the energy and the celebration of life.
    Looking forward to hearing more.

  23. Second blog I've read tonight about passion! :-)

Enjoyed you telling your story, your passion does come thru. It's really so important, and it's wonderful that you've found your passion and that you live it.

  24. "Surround yourself with like-minded people." Great concept and for me it is crucial to my growth as a business woman!

  25. Nice blog and great video Carrie:) Finding your passion and feeding your sole....good advice for anyone! I am still finding my voice and working on my passion. What is life without passion?! I love the quotes too, my favorite is Chase down your passion like it's the last bus of the night.-- Glade Byron Addams
